Infineon Technologies AG has introduced a 5.6 kW modular common redundant power supply, or M-CRPS, reference design aimed at enterprise servers and edge AIartificial intelligence deployments. The design is positioned for higher rack power density and better thermal performance as AIartificial intelligence computing continues to drive server power demand upward.

The PSU targets an efficiency profile aligned with 80 PLUS Ruby and GB 20943-2025. In a compact 185 mm M-CRPS form factor, it reaches a power density of 170 W/in³ and a peak efficiency of more than 98%.

At the front end, the design uses a three-level flying-capacitor totem-pole power factor correction stage built with CoolSiC and CoolMOS devices. This stage is designed for a peak efficiency above 99%. A compact half-bridge LLC stage with synchronous rectification operates at a resonant frequency of about 350 kHz and is enabled by CoolGaN devices.

An integrated energy buffer provides 12 milliseconds of hold-up time at full power while reducing the volume needed for electrolytic capacitors. The transformer integrates resonant and magnetizing inductance, which cuts the need for separate magnetic packages and leaves more flexibility for component placement and airflow.

A programmable power control accelerator integrated into the PSOC Control C3 Performance Line microcontroller supports current and voltage regulation with fast dynamic response.

Infineon will show the PSU at electronica 2026 in Munich from November 10 to 13.
