Singular Photonics has presented Litavis, a CMOS1. complementary metal-oxide semiconductorCircuit technology combining n- and p-channel MOS transistors for low static power consumption.2. complementary metal-oxide-semiconductorCMOS is a fundamental semiconductor technology for digital and analog circuits. SPAD image sensor that moves digital photon processing onto the chip and into the pixel itself. Instead of exporting large raw data streams for external processing, the sensor handles photon events locally, which the company says supports lower latency and better power efficiency in real-time imaging systems.

The device uses a 3D-stacked, back-side-illuminated architecture and combines photon-counting imaging with programmable time gating and photon timing in a scalable SPAD array. It captures both spatial and temporal information and can extract scene data such as depth and event characteristics. The architecture is software-configurable, allowing intensity, timing, and histogramming modes to run concurrently without a hardware redesign.

Litavis provides continuous 256×256-pixel photon-counting imaging under low-light conditions and also produces time-stamped photon events on a 64×64-macropixel timing grid. According to the announcement, the sensor reaches 47% photon detection efficiency at 785 nm, 37-ps timing resolution, and 4.3-ns dead time. A 100% fill factor is achieved with microlenses.

The sensor is positioned for machine vision, physical AIartificial intelligence, robotics, depth sensing, and scientific imaging. No availability timeline was given in the announcement.
