Infineon Technologies AG has officially opened a new backend manufacturing site in Bangkok, Samut Prakan. The facility is intended to strengthen the company’s global manufacturing footprint, add resilient capacity and support future growth in semiconductor demand.

The site is built as a greenfield location with scalability in mind. Starting with Module A, it can expand to up to five modules, which would make Bangkok one of Infineon’s largest backend manufacturing sites over time. The new hub complements the company’s ongoing expansion of frontend manufacturing capacity.

Technically, the Bangkok site combines advanced automation, scalable design and a digital manufacturing backbone. It includes advanced cleanroom, assembly and test capabilities as well as wafer test, covering the full spectrum of backend processes. Infineon says this setup is meant to support efficient, stable and high-quality production at scale, while remaining flexible enough for evolving customer requirements, new technologies and large production volumes.

The site currently employs around 350 people and is expected to grow to about 1,000 employees as Module A ramps up. Infineon also points to collaborations with universities, educational institutions and industry partners to support talent development.

Sustainability measures are integrated from the start. The Bangkok site runs on 100 percent green electricity, includes water recycling and rainwater collection systems, and uses solar modules for on-site renewable power generation. Infineon positions the project as part of a broader effort to reduce carbon footprint across the value chain while serving automotive, industrial and energy infrastructure applications.
