STMicroelectronics has introduced the STM32H7P microcontroller series with dedicated hardware acceleration for digital signal processing and edge AIartificial intelligence, paired with a 2773-CoreMark Arm Cortex-M7 core. The devices are aimed at demanding industrial workloads such as digital power, motor control, condition monitoring, sensing, and other mission-critical embedded applications.

The architecture combines ST’s Hardware Signal Processor (HSP) with the Neural-ART Neural Processing Unit (NPUNeural Processing UnitA processor optimized for neural-network inference workloads.). The HSP is designed as a cost-optimized DSP1. differential signal processingSignal processing based on differences between two signals, often rejecting common interference.2. digital signal processing accelerator for matrix, vector, and signal-processing tasks, reducing the burden on the main CPUcentral processing unitMain processor that executes program instructions and performs data operations. and limiting the need for an external DSP1. differential signal processingSignal processing based on differences between two signals, often rejecting common interference.2. digital signal processing. Fast Fourier Transform execution is claimed to be up to five times faster than software running on the Cortex-M7 alone.

The Cortex-M7 runs at up to 520 MHzmegahertzFrequency unit equal to one million cycles per second.. ST says the dual-accelerator setup delivers 1.7 times the performance of alternative products on the market. Larger tightly coupled memories are included to improve access to instructions and data, which is intended to boost real-time control, signal processing, and AIartificial intelligence inference.

Memory density is also increased. The series offers up to 2 MBmachine batch of Flash, while keeping the price point similar to the previous 1 MBmachine batch STM32H7 series for selected configurations. That positioning is intended to support general-purpose and mass-market designs that need more local storage without stepping up to a higher-cost MCU1. microprocessor control unit2. mobile calibration unit3. microcontrollerA microcontroller is a compact integrated circuit designed to execute embedded control tasks in electronic systems. platform.

For mixed-signal control, the STM32H7P adds analog peripherals and timers inherited from the STM32G5 series, including ADC1. analog-to-digital converterCircuit that converts an analog input signal into digital values.2. automated data collectionSystem or method for collecting, storing, exchanging or analyzing data.3. automatic defect classificationMeasurement or inspection concept for tracking defects and process variations in manufacturing.s, DAC1. digital-to-analog converterCircuit that converts digital values into an analog signal.2. dielectric aging chamberReliability-engineering term describing device stress, aging or failure behavior.3. These functions are meant to strengthen control applications in areas such as solar, digital power, and motor control.

The Neural-ART NPUNeural Processing UnitA processor optimized for neural-network inference workloads. is specified for up to 85 GOPS and is presented as a way to move edge-AIartificial intelligence workloads out of software. ST cites inference speedups of 40 times for an arc-fault circuit interrupter model for solar inverter safety, 20 times for an anomaly-detection model, and 15 times for a battery-management system model.

ST’s Edge AIartificial intelligence Suite, DSP1. differential signal processingSignal processing based on differences between two signals, often rejecting common interference.2. digital signal processing enablement software, and X-CUBE-MCSDK-2 motor-control tools support development, while the STM32Cube ecosystem is being extended with STM32CubeMX2 and the HAL2 hardware abstraction layer. The STM32H7P operates up to 125°C ambient temperature, is part of ST’s industrial longevity support program, and will sample now with production planned for January 2027. Pricing starts at $4.43 in LQFP100 for 10,000-unit orders.
