STMicroelectronics has announced a new set of automotive safety sensors designed to make advanced crash and motion-sensing functions available in mass-market vehicles. The company says the devices unify multiple inertial sensing functions in a single package and are aimed at applications ranging from crash protection and rollover detection to airbag deployment, stability control, and radar beam stabilization.
The new parts combine a multi-axis accelerometer with a gyroscope, also described as an angular rate sensor, in a single device for automotive safety systems. The platform is positioned for OEMoriginal equipment manufacturers and Tier-1 suppliers that need a common sensor foundation for both active and passive safety architectures, while meeting automotive quality, reliability, and safety requirements.
STMicroelectronics says the products are the first mass-market launches following the integration of NXP’s automotive and industrial MEMS1. microelectromechanical system2. micromachines3. microelectromechanical systemsMEMS describes micromechanical structures on a chip. sensors business earlier in 2026. The company also highlights a long product-availability commitment of at least 15 years, which is intended to reduce lifecycle and redesign risk for automotive programs.
All four devices support SafeSPI, the automotive safety version of the serial peripheral interface, for independent monitoring of sensor data. Each sensor integrates full internal diagnostics and is implemented as an ISO 26262-compliant device.
The lineup includes four variants: NCS1012BAEP, NCS1012CAEP, NCS1012EAEP, and NCS10135AEP. Across the family, the angular rate sensors offer full-scale ranges of ±125 dps, ±250 dps, or ±350 dps, with low offset and minimal drift over the automotive temperature range of −40°C to +105°C.
The devices also integrate filtering options, including a low-pass filter with 3 dB frequency settings from 12.5 Hz to 400 Hz and, on the angular rate side, an optional single-pole high-pass filter with fast startup. The low-g acceleration sensors provide nominal full-scale ranges from ±1.50 g to ±34 g, while the medium-g versions cover ±15.5 g to ±150 g and use an independent signal chain to minimize noise.
The four sensors are in production now and come in 24-pin QFN packages measuring 6 mm × 6 mm × 1.90 mm. They also feature wettable flanks to meet automotive optical inspection requirements. Sample requests and pricing are handled through STMicroelectronics sales offices.
